Head of Human Resources
LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with a professional services firm in Kansas City, MO, and assisting them search for a new, accomplished Head of Human Resources to provide strategic leadership and hands‑on execution across all human resources functions. This role reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and serves as a trusted advisor to firm leadership.
Responsibilities
Partner with firm leadership to design and implement HR strategies that support the firm’s strategic plan, culture, and long‑term objectives, positioning HR as a proactive and strategic business partner
Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders and practice leaders on people‑related strategies specific to professional services organizations
Lead, develop, and mentor the HR team, establishing clear roles, performance expectations, and service standards to deliver consistent, high‑quality support across the firm
Clarify and streamline HR operations to ensure scalability, responsiveness, and the ability to proactively address workforce growth and organizational needs
Develop and manage the annual HR budget, including forecasting operational needs, leveraging data to inform decisions, and investing in strategic priorities identified by firm leadership
Provide oversight of all HR operations, including professional staff recruiting, onboarding and offboarding, benefits administration, employee relations, performance management, HR systems, data integrity, and regulatory compliance
Oversee the implementation, communication, and ongoing maintenance of firmwide HR policies, ensuring they are clearly understood, consistently applied, and regularly updated
Ensure compliance with all applicable employment laws and regulations, including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEOC, OSHA, and related requirements; maintain up‑to‑date HR policies, handbooks, and procedures
Lead and guide the recruiting function, supporting professional staff hiring across the firm and managing external search firm partnerships
Develop and oversee professional staff development and career growth programs that strengthen talent pipelines and support long‑term retention
Oversee offboarding processes, coordinating with HR, IT, Finance, and practice leadership to ensure smooth transitions, knowledge transfer, and completion of all administrative requirements
Manage the firm’s Human Resources Information System (HRIS), ensuring data accuracy, security, and effective use of technology; leverage HR analytics and benchmarking to identify workforce trends and support decision‑making
Build and maintain strong relationships with external vendors related to HR technology, benefits, and other HR services
Oversee employee relations matters, including investigations, conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and issue escalation, ensuring fairness, consistency, and professionalism
Serve as a trusted resource to managers and leaders in navigating sensitive workplace matters and complex employee situations
Lead the firm’s performance management processes, including coaching leaders on performance issues, corrective action, and performance improvement plans, while ensuring timely, well‑documented, and equitable outcomes
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree
15+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, including at least 5 years in a senior HR management role
Demonstrated expertise in employment law, employee relations, and HR best practices
Proficiency with HRIS platforms, HR analytics, and Microsoft Office tools, with the ability to use data to inform decisions
Demonstrated integrity, discretion, and ability to build trust at all levels of the organization
Proven ability to balance strategic vision with hands‑on operational execution
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence, collaborate, and build relationships across a complex organization
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong commitment to accuracy, confidentiality, and professionalism
Preferred
Master's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
Professional HR certification (SHRM‑SCP, SPHR, or equivalent)
Experience in a professional services environment
Law firm experience is a plus
Experience with UKG is a plus
