Business Development Associate - Private Equity Firm

The role involves identifying, reaching out to, and building relationships with business owners while managing high-volume outreach and supporting the deal team with initial diligence requests.
Responsibilities
Run multiple investment thesis searches simultaneously to test the depth of various markets
Provide guidance to the investment team on where there is opportunity/risk, based on the conversations you’re having with business owners
Quickly learn industry dynamics and market trends well enough to engage executives and build their trust in the firm
Manage high-volume outreach across calls, emails, LinkedIn and texts
Nurture relationships with qualified business owners and guide conversations from first touch through LOI
Support the deal team with collecting and analyzing initial diligence requests
Report weekly on your activities, the performance of each of your searches, and the status of each opportunity in the pipeline
Be directly responsible for filling the pipeline with deals
Execute multi-touch sequences heavy on calls, supported by emails, LinkedIn messages and SMS
Work through gatekeepers to reach decision makers and turn 'no' into 'maybe' into 'yes'
Respond quickly to inbound responses and schedule next touchpoints
Adjust messaging based on what’s working and what’s not and work collaboratively with the team to 'level each other up' and establish a standard of excellence
Conduct qualification calls to gather: service lines, revenue by service/vertical, employee count, key business metrics, and openness to a transaction
Educate owners on the firm’s approach (why private equity, why us instead of other firms, what partnership looks like for them)
Gauge genuine interest and strategic opportunity
Follow up persistently but thoughtfully, sometimes it takes multiple touch points to earn trust
Get owners interested and comfortable enough to sign an NDA and share financials
Hand off qualified opportunities to senior team members for deeper diligence
Log tasks (calls, emails, meetings)
Take and record notes on meaningful interactions
Keep prospect statuses up to date
Get NDAs signed, collect financials, coordinate meetings; and log all of it in the CRM
Report weekly on your activities, the performance of each of your searches, and the status of each opportunity in the pipeline
Qualification
Required
2+ years of experience in the following: Sourcing/origination within a Venture Capital or Private Equity Firm, Investment banking firm or Tech sales organization
Proven ability to hit volume targets and manage a high-activity sales or outreach process
Strong verbal communication skills—you can read a room (or a phone call) and adjust your approach
