Field Operations Mechanical Technician I/II
NEOGOV is looking for a Field Operations Mechanical Technician I/II to join the South Tahoe Public Utility District. The role involves operating and maintaining water wells, pump stations, and related equipment while ensuring compliance with health regulations and maintaining operational records.

Responsibilities
Performs daily operation and maintenance of all components of water and wastewater pump stations including valves, controls, air compressors, pumps, motors and standby generator equipment and performs major and minor repairs of same
Installs, operates, maintains, and repairs all pump control systems, including ultra sonic level controllers, float switches, submersible transducers, conductivity level sensors, bubbler tube systems, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD’s), and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s)
Performs journeyman level rehabilitation, fabrication, construction, and overhaul of sewer and water pump stations and related water operation facilities
Installs, maintains, repairs, and collects data of flow meters
Installs and maintains cathodic protection systems
Installs, maintains, adjusts, and repairs pressure reducing valves (PRV’s)
Maintains, operates, and repairs Fallen Leaf Lake and electrical stations, standby generators, and air release valves
Installs, operates, repairs, and maintains odor scrubbers and air strippers
Maintains maintenance records for equipment, including use of preventive maintenance computer software system
Interacts with the public, investigates, and resolves water service complaints, Responds to calls for assistance, when available and accepts stand-by duty, as needed
Takes periodic readings of gauges, meters and charts, and records results in operations logbooks
Ensures compliance with the Department of Health Services regulations by adding sodium hypochlorite to potable water for disinfection, and samples residuals as required
Inspects, cleans, maintains, and repairs water tanks
Operates arsenic treatment systems for the removal of arsenic to comply with the Department of Health Services Standards
Performs a variety of manual tasks requiring the handling of equipment exposed to raw sewage and cleans sewer pump station wet wells
Flushes dead end water mains as required by the Department of Health Services
Adjusts operational infrastructure as needed due to unforeseen circumstances
Moves heavy equipment and devices by use of hoist, cranes, forklift, dollies, or other means
Uses self-contained breathing apparatus safely and properly, as stated by California safety laws
Adheres to and enforces stated safety policies and procedures
Qualification
Required
High school graduate or equivalent
Field Operations Mechanical Technician I: One year related field experience
Field Operations Mechanical Technician II: Three years related field experience and complete knowledge of all duties listed under Essential Functions
Field Operations Mechanical Technician I requires ability to obtain Certification Grade D1 Water Distribution Operator and Grade T1 Water Treatment Plant Operator Certification from the State of California, within thirty-six (36) months from hire date
Field Operations Mechanical Technician II requires Grade D2 Water Distribution Operator and Grade T2 Water Treatment Plant Operator Certification from the State of California Department of Health
Requires a valid, current, Class B drivers' license, with Hazardous Materials, Tanker and Air Brake Endorsements (or ability to obtain within 18 months of hire), acceptable by the State of California, with a driving record which enables insurability
Requires ability to remain familiar with the Confined Space Program and the duties of Confined Space Supervisor, Entrant, Attendant, and Rescue as provided during annual training
Requires knowledge of equipment and machinery related to their safe operation and maintenance
Requires knowledge of California drinking water regulations as they apply to the District's water system
Requires ability to understand and follow stated operating and maintenance procedures
Requires ability to read and understand grid books
Requires ability to work knowledgeably, efficiently, and safely with all types of hand and power tools, and motorized equipment around water and sewer operations and facilities
Requires ability to understand the principles of water chemistry and hydraulics, pumping, electricity, carpentry, pipe fitting, welding, basic machinery, and fabrication
Requires ability to read, understand and follow written and/or verbal instructions
Requires ability to perform supervisory duties in the absence of the Field Operations Mechanical Technician Supervisor or Lead Person (Field Operations Mechanical Technician II only)
Requires the ability to maintain cooperative relationships with co-workers and supervisors
Must have current, valid CPR and First Aid certificates, or ability to obtain within two (2) years of hire date

Life Insurance - $70,000 death benefit. Premiums paid in full by District.
Retirement Plan - CalPERS 2% at 62 formula for PEPRA members. 2.7% at 55 for Classic Members. Employee pays 50% of the total cost of the benefit, up to a maximum of 8% of salary per month. A new hire not previously in CalPERS (or a reciprocal plan) or who has had a PERS/recriprocal agency service break of six months or more may be subject to provisions of PEPRA legislation effective January 1, 2013.
