Accounting Associate
Morgan State University is seeking an Accounting Associate to manage the accurate and timely data entry of financial transactions for the University. The role involves processing journal entries, reconciling accounts, maintaining records, and providing administrative support within the Comptroller's Office.

Responsibilities
Download activity in Banner Finance and the State’s RSTARS system
Rollforward the monthly reconciliation file and prepare it for the current month’s reconciliation
Reconcile the two systems by identifying matching transactions and inquire about outstanding, unreconciled items
Prepare journal entries to correct errors in financial records, ensuring accuracy in appropriation line postings as provided by other members of the department
Collaborate with departments to resolve mispostings and provide guidance on appropriate coding practices
Maintain accurate and organized records for all reconciliation, journal entries, and corrections
Ensure data entry in the Banner system is error-free, with 100% accuracy
Assist in uploading any files to BDM (Banner Data Management) to the State’s E-Books platform
Use the Department’s purchasing card to replenish supplies, maintain subscriptions, or other approved purchases as needed, maintain all appropriate receipts, and complete the monthly expense log
Maintain the Comptroller’ Department website by updating it as directed
Assist visitors to the Department suite as needed
Qualification
Required
A High School Diploma or GED is required
Four (4) years accounting clerical experience is required
Thorough knowledge of bookkeeping principles, mathematical methods and techniques and accounting standards
Skill in performing mathematical computations; in using analytical techniques to reconcile financial documents; in operating calculators, personal computers and related software
Ability to work independently with little supervision
Ability to supervise and train others in assigned accounting clerical work; to establish and maintain effective work relationships
Ability to operate manual and automated office equipment
Preferred
Candidates with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance are preferred in addition to 2+ years of Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable experience
Knowledge of Banner 9 Finance software experience is a plus
Proficiency in Gmail, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and financial systems (e.g., Oracle and FMIS preferred)
Strong data entry skills with a commitment to accuracy
