Undergraduate/Graduate (Summer) Intern - Cybersecurity Research – Grid Resilience and Risk Analysis
The National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR) is focused on energy systems research and development, and they are seeking an intern for their Cybersecurity Research Center. The successful candidate will support research efforts related to grid resilience and risk analysis, working on projects that involve cybersecurity assessments and collaboration with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities
Perform ad hoc security risk assessments (e.g., NIST CSF, NIST 800-30/53, ISO 27005)
Assist with cybersecurity testing using hardware equipment or in virtualized environments
Deploy experiments related to cybersecurity and resilience using the NLR Cyber Range
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet customer objectives and engage with stakeholders (e.g., utilities, DOE)
Conduct data analysis and reporting
Evaluate customer needs and conduct background research on existing security solutions
Meet project deadlines, navigate a complex project landscape, and complete assigned tasks
Qualification
Required
Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average
Undergraduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a bachelor's degree program from an accredited institution
Post Undergraduate: Earned a bachelor's degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year
Graduate: Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a master's degree program from an accredited institution
Post Graduate: Earned a master's degree within the past 12 months. Eligible for an internship period of up to one year
Graduate + PhD: Completed master's degree and enrolled as PhD student from an accredited institution
Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a bachelor's or master's program in cybersecurity, computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, IT, Management of Information Systems, or related fields; or currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program in one of these fields
Foundational knowledge in cybersecurity
Demonstrated knowledge and experience of TCP/IP networking
Ability to work independently and collaborate in cross functional team environment
Strong communication skills
Ability to gather customer requirements, build and maintain customer relationships
Experience using consumer AI tools
Working with virtualization methods and technologies
Preferred
Experience with computer networking
Experience with system administration, networking or development
Knowledge of utility operations
Risk assessment expertise
Experience with virtualization, containerization, and system automation (including configuration management and orchestration)
Knowledge or experience in cybersecurity compliance, standards, policy and regulation
Knowledge or experience in power systems
Ability to perform cybersecurity risk quantification
Experience with technical writing, literature reviews, or publishing in conferences/journals
Knowledge of Identity Management and Access Control
Experience working with APIs
