Senior Stationary Engineer
Bayhealth Medical Center is Central and Southern Delaware’s healthcare leader with hospitals in Dover and Milford. The Senior Stationary Engineer is responsible for the uninterrupted operation of hospital utilities and systems, ensuring safe and efficient operation of the boiler and chiller plant in compliance with various guidelines and policies.

Responsibilities
Leadership: a. Utilizes strong interpersonal skills for the purpose of effective leadership in guiding assigned staff, contractors, and vendors to ensure continuous operations and efficiency in the Central Utilities Building. b. Collaborates and supports with department leadership to ensure the plant and mechanical systems servicing the facility are reliable and operating efficiently. c. Trains and monitors CUB staff on systems operations, processes, and preventative maintenance activities. d. Prepare work schedules and assigns duties for CUB staff; inspect and reviews maintenance and operation activities to ensure conformance with instructions and existing standards. e. Work closely with contractors to ensure that they are meeting all the requirements of their contracts and are dedicated to the success of our plant. f. Audit staff and contractors work to ensure that all the equipment and maintenance is working optimally. g. Advises departmental leadership on Capital improvement and equipment replacement plans. Oversees capital project work within the central utility plant. h. Requisitions supplies, materials, and parts necessary for maintenance and operation activities and assures that sufficient supplies are readily available; prepares specifications and estimates for equipment, supplies and the installation and repair of machinery and equipment. i. Supervises the operation, maintenance, and repair of large high pressure steam boilers, pumping systems, chillers, refrigerant monitoring equipment, cooling towers, fuel oil systems, emergency generator monitoring systems, medical gas monitoring systems and building automation systems. j. Advises department leadership on heating, cooling, electrical distribution systems throughout the facility as a subject matter expert
Safety: a. As Safety Officer for the CUB, ensures that all employees, contractors, and vendors wear and use the proper PPE as required. b. Ensures all employees, contractors, and vendors are trained and follow lockout/tagout, utility Impairment, confined space, and other safety programs required by the organization. c. Ensures all employees are trained in Forklift and aerial platform safety
Operations: a. Ensures safe, reliable, and uninterrupted operations of boilers and their respective support equipment and systems. Maintains steam heating equipment and systems in the highest ready state. b. Evaluate all equipment in the boiler/ chiller plant and also the medical gas equipment to ensure that it is working as designed. c. Review and evaluate systems for premature equipment failures and getting repairs completed and changes made to minimize equipment failures. d. Schedules preventative maintenance tasks and delegates tasks to the appropriately qualified Stationary Engineer. e. Conduct PMs, Work Order, and Maintenance software audits to ensure all tasks and jobs are completed in a timely manner. f. Ensures critical spare parts inventories are maintained. g. Create and monitor work/holiday schedules for plant staff plant while also adjusting schedules for PTO, call outs, etc. to ensure the plant is staffed at all times. h. Proficient in BAS systems and adjusting parameters as required to ensure the efficient operations of systems. i. Understand water chemistry and work with chemical treatment companies to ensure our systems are protected and operate as designed. j. Proficient in daily water testing requirements for the plant creating and updating procedures for plant as required to maintain proper water chemistry. k. Maintain safe exterior walking surfaces by assisting with snow removal. l. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities to include snow/ice removal
Regulatory: a. Ensures emissions of smoke and /or steam vapor are kept to a minimum and within local and state regulations. b. Checks all boiler systems for proper, safe, and reliable operations through frequent documented rounding and inspections. c. Review and maintain refrigeration logs for the chillers by auditing records to ensure that they are maintained up to date. d. Schedule contractors for boiler testing and underground fuel testing per DNREC requirements. e. Develop and maintain water chemistry testing records and logs. Developing reports as required to show regulatory compliance. f. Works jointly with chemical and water treatment specialists to ensure boiler, cooling tower, and closed loop systems are being properly maintained
All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities to include snow/ice removal
Qualification
Required
High School Diploma or GED Certificate
Completion of a journey program and/or associate degree in a related technical field
Driver License and Driving Record Required. Must be 21 or older for insurance
Stationary Engineer/CSB Current Stationary Engineer's license obtained through a recognized city or state testing program; or completion of the Bayhealth Stationary Engineer Exam within the first 90 days of employment. (Recertification is required every 2 years.)
Five (5) years' experience in high pressure steam and chilled water plant operations
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in business or related field, or Masters license in Electrical, Plumbing, or HVACR
Driver License and Driving Record Required. Must be 21 or older for insurance
Eight (8) years' experience in high pressure steam and chilled water plant operations
