Production Scheduling Coordinator - Level III
Cummins Inc. is seeking a talented Production Scheduling Coordinator – Level III to join their Supply Chain Planning team in Columbus, IN. In this role, you will be responsible for building and maintaining production schedules, optimizing flow across various departments, and ensuring timely execution of plans while managing constraints and data quality.
Automotive
Responsibilities
Turn demand into reality: Build and maintain realistic, capacity-aligned production schedules that consistently meet customer demand and protect commitments
Optimize flow end-to-end: Align RM, WIP, and FG strategies across Materials, Operations, and Customer Service to reduce shortages, excess, and fire-fighting
Stabilize execution inside the time fence: Proactively manage schedule changes, secure approvals, and minimize disruption from downtime, material gaps, or urgent demand shifts
Improve schedule attainment: Drive accountability with Logistics and Operations, using clear metrics and data to raise attainment and delivery reliability
Strengthen data and master planning quality: Perform rigorous master data checks (BOMs, routings, work centers) to support PFEP and prevent planning errors before they hit the floor
Unblock constraints and bottlenecks: Analyze capacity, kitting, Kanban, and routings to identify issues and lead practical improvements that increase throughput
Embed safety and quality into planning: Champion HSE compliance and training, and partner with Quality to quickly disposition non-conforming material without risking delivery
Be a trusted cross-functional partner: Communicate clearly, support continuous improvement projects, and stay flexible—owning outcomes that help the business hit its goal
Clear, adaptive communication: Translate complex planning data into messages that resonate with different audiences—operators, leaders, materials, engineering, and customers—so decisions are understood and acted on
Strong customer-first mindset: Anchor planning and trade-off decisions in customer impact (delivery, reliability, ATP), not just internal efficiency
Results orientation under pressure: Stay focused on outcomes when demand, capacity, or materials don’t line up—prioritizing, recalibrating, and still delivering
Ownership and accountability: Hold yourself and cross-functional partners to commitments on schedules, changes, and KPIs; close the loop when gaps appear
Ability to manage complexity: Make sense of large volumes of sometimes conflicting data (demand, capacity, inventory, engineering changes) and turn it into clear plans and actions
Fluency in the materials planning system: Use the system as your primary tool to balance supply and demand, resolve exception messages through root-cause analysis, and drive long-term corrective actions—using Excel or ad-hoc tools only as support
Disciplined PFEP and master data management: Apply PFEP principles end-to-end, ensuring BOMs, planning parameters, material flows, and warehouse processes are aligned to prevent instability
Strong capacity and supply scheduling skills: Convert MPS and demand plans into RCCP and detailed capacity plans, identify constraints early, and negotiate smart options (overtime, shifts, headcount) when demand exceeds capacity
KPI-driven decision making: Interpret materials and supply chain KPIs to understand customer impact, assess performance gaps, and balance trade-offs without optimizing one metric at the expense of others
Inclusive, collaborative mindset: Value different perspectives and cultures, using diverse input to improve problem-solving, decision quality, and team trust
