Tax Compliance Analyst

Odyssey Trust Company is a tech-forward transfer agent and trust company that is modernizing the infrastructure of financial markets. They are seeking a Tax Compliance Analyst to facilitate the verification and processing of tax forms, ensure compliance with tax laws, and support the tax team with accurate filing and remittance obligations.

Responsibilities

Solicit, verify and process Canadian and US tax forms for our clients and their shareholders (NR forms, FATCA/CRS, W8, W9 etc.)
Providing procedural guidance to internal teams for the review of IRS and CRA taxpayer certification forms
Ensure timely tax remittance to the CRA and IRS and reconcile the tax withholdings
Find and implement opportunities for process improvement in Company tax procedures
Prioritize multiple tax filings requirements and effectively working with the business lines to establish the timely receipt of relevant information needed for all tax filings
Maintain effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process
Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to management and the tax team and create strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation
Provide support with various internal and external audits and special tax related projects
Monitor tax files monthly, review the data integrity and ensure applicable rates, formulas and tax factors have been applied to all income, interest and unit trust distribution events
Support other team members with facilitating and managing the preparation and review of U.S. and Canadian returns and the accurate, timely filing of all returns to the tax authority and the taxpayers

Required

Extensive individual/corporate/partnership tax knowledge, including experience and knowledge of Canadian and US tax rules
Experience in US tax slip preparation
Strong accounting, analytical, and research skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Strong knowledge of tax code, compliance and procedures for corporations
Strong experience with a variety of tax operations and ability to drive process improvements
Strong ability to utilize project management and accounting best practices to organize and prioritize tasks and the tasks of other tax team members
Ability to work well independently as well as the ability to work well with stakeholders and communicate the benefits of tax initiatives
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

Preferred

Experience working in the financial services industry, specifically with a trust company - preferred but not required
