Electrical Equipment Repairer
U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking an Electrical Equipment Repairer to work at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center. The role involves testing, diagnosing, preventive maintenance, and repairing wheelchairs and mobility aids for wounded and disabled veterans.

Responsibilities
Energizes - adjusts and tests new manual/power wheelchairs - scooters and walkers before Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service issues it to the clinician
Fabricates parts for special applications to manual and power wheelchairs - scooters - or walkers and adjust the restrictive devices such as belts - straps and postural supports for maximum benefit to the patient of a motorized wheelchair or scooter
Will adjust the brakes on a walker
Sets up and operate computer-controlled automatic test equipment (ATE) and other specialized test equipment to perform both pretest and final checkout of electrical equipment
Adjusts various electronic controls used by the head - chin or hand to navigate the equipment
Checks and repair gears and clutches - when necessary - also replace and repair items such as brushes - seals - bearings or armatures
Use voltmeters - ohmmeters - field multi-meters - circuit testers and battery chargers according to interpretation in the technical orders - schematics - wiring diagrams - and assembled and non-assembled micro-switches - multi-control switches to manufactures specifications
Performs specific checks to measure resistance - voltage - capacity using a wide range of automatic test equipment (ATE) and other specialized test equipment - performing both the pretest and the final checkout of electrical equipment
Alignments and test equipment found in the Wheelchair repair room - and the skill to use all the hand and power tools in the shop
Repairs - rebuilds - or replace electric motors - 12 and 24 volts of the RAE - Boehm and Parvalux classes by replacing motor brushes - caps - gear box assemblies - drive shafts and their assemblies and motor seals
Qualification
Required
Evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality to perform the duties of this position
Knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions on your resume
Ability to perform maintenance, repairs, and cleaning which require bending and stooping for prolonged periods of time
Ability to assist veterans and others with loading and unloading wheelchairs delivered to the wheelchair repair shop for repairs
Ability to lift and carry lead-acid batteries
Ability to lift and carry items weighing in excess of 50lbs
Experience with Electric Drawings
Experience with Electrical Equipment
Experience with Technical Practices
Experience with Technical Practices (Electrical Electronic)
Experience with Troubleshooting (Electrical)
Experience with Use and Maintain Hand Tools (Electrical Work)
