The Engineer Electrical 3 role involves researching, developing, designing, and testing electrical components and systems, as well as providing engineering review of relevant documents within a model-based manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities
Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks
Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes
Provides engineering review of Visual Work Instructions (VWIs) and other carrier engineering build authority documents, primarily within the electrical discipline
Ensures build authority information provided within the VWI is consistent with the applicable technical authority documents
Reviews engineering change documents for applicability and proper incorporation within the build authority documents
Applies engineering and carrier construction knowledge towards the validation of welds, notes, and dimensions for Ford class carrier construction
Provides training to entry level engineers
Participates in development of processes and procedures
Interacts and collaborates with VWI developers, construction trade representatives, and planning personnel to ensure proper understanding of the work to be performed by and the requirements required of the VWI
Regularly participates in collaboration meetings
Frequently uses collaboration tools such as WebEx and Jabber
Uses Team Center, NGP, NX, SAP, and 1Tool daily to complete assigned tasks
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience
Master's Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience
Ph.D. and 0 years of experience
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
Preferred
Experience with carrier engineering technical authority and build authority documents
Engineering experience within the carrier program
Experience as an electrical engineer
Experience using Team Center, NGP, NX, and SAP
Understands and applies engineering procedures to manufacturing processes and production methods within a model based environment
Eagerness and willingness to learn, enjoys working on teams and the ability to embrace change and adapt quickly
