The Insurance Accounting Specialist will support day-to-day accounting operations for Newtek Insurance Agency, focusing on carrier payables, commission revenue, reconciliations, and ensuring financial data accuracy.

Financial Services

Responsibilities

Perform carrier and commission reconciliations (monthly and quarterly)
Review and validate commission statements against AMS360/BenefitPoint
Support revenue recognition and deferral accuracy
Post journal entries related to insurance transactions
Assist with accounts payable and receivable related to carriers and vendors
Support month-end close activities and variance analysis
Maintain organized audit support documentation
Coordinate with servicing and operations teams to resolve discrepancies
Track open accounting issues and follow through to resolution

Required

2 years of accounting experience
Insurance agency/carrier accounting experience
Billing experience with Commercial/Personal and Health benefits
Strong Excel skills (lookups, pivots, reconciliation logic)
Comfortable with being on video camera while engaging with clients/customers, attending company/department meetings
High attention to detail and follow-through
Ability to manage recurring deadlines
Comfortable working cross-functionally

Preferred

Experience with AMS360, ImageRight, or similar agency systems
Ability to differentiate between direct bill and agency bill clients
Understanding of commission-based revenue models
