Vice President of Instruction

Responsibilities

Plan, develop, coordinate, and evaluate the college's instructional offerings to meet student, program, and enrollment needs
Coordinate, direct, and support the activities of the instructional deans, directors, and staff
Supervise and assist in the development of ongoing institutional publications, including the college catalog, class schedules, faculty handbooks, and state reporting documents
Provide leadership in responding to accreditation standards and college initiatives
Work collaboratively with the Academic Senate and adhere to academic professional matters and the 10+1 policy
Participate collaboratively in College and District strategic planning, policy development, and resource allocation
Ensure College compliance with accreditation standards, Title 5, and federal regulations related to instructional programs, services, and activities
Direct and monitor the preparation of the College's schedule of classes based on student learning needs and program patterns; review the schedule development and ensure efficient use of classrooms, laboratories, and other instructional facilities; ensure that an appropriate balance of curriculum is offered to meet the needs of the diverse student population
Provide direction and support to help faculty and staff engage in meaningful assessment of student learning outcomes
Collaborate with the Vice President of Student Services to maintain and foster a student-centered model of education
Provide guidance to and receive advice from the Committee on Instruction
Assist Institutional Research efforts related to areas of responsibility
Review and recommend conferences, field trips, leaves of absence, instructional improvement grant proposals, and other special faculty requests
Foster instructional and institutional effectiveness by undertaking other duties as necessary or as delegated by the College President
Provide leadership to align programs and staffing with community needs, student demographics, and program demands
Develop and negotiate partnerships with corporations, businesses, community agencies, and educational institutions at all levels
Assist in developing and enhancing international student programs and success
Represent the college to professional organizations, governance entities, community groups, and prospective donors and friends of the college
Review, monitor, and participate in shaping regional, statewide, and federal issues concerning community colleges and disseminate relevant information as appropriate
Serve on college and district committees
Attend Board of Trustees meetings as requested
Assist with the development of resource allocations for facilities, equipment, and technologies that support instructional programs
In consultation with instructional deans and directors, develop and manage the instructional budget and direct the development and implementation of selected externally funded initiatives
Forecast and conduct short-term and long-term planning for staffing levels and budget needs for instructional programs
Support and promote external grant opportunities to enhance institutional effectiveness and student success
Provide leadership and coordination for the efficient use of college instructional facilities and collaborate with district and construction management personnel on facilities projects
Proactively plan robust and inclusive recruitments and orientations for Academic Program faculty and staff in compliance with the District's Equal Employment Opportunity Plan
In coordination with the District, ensure the District's Equal Employment Opportunity Plan strategies are implemented for Academic Program faculty and staff
Provide proactive and sensitive leadership to ensure that the instructional divisions foster cultural diversity and an atmosphere of inclusivity
Coordinate compliant and equitable evaluations of all Academic Program faculty and staff and assess the effectiveness of positions to programs and services
Monitor faculty teaching assignments to ensure conformance to College and District policy and to ensure equitable workloads
Promote professional development opportunities for faculty and staff
Ensure compliance with applicable collective bargaining agreements and oversee training, counseling, performance evaluations, and discipline of personnel consistently and according to policies and procedures

Required

Master's degree or higher from an accredited institution OR the equivalent
Three years of increasingly responsible experience in instruction and curriculum development
Two years of responsibility in academic administration and management
Experience in budget development and management
Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff

Preferred

Earned Doctoral degree from an accredited institution
