MGR PRINCIPAL ENGINEER 3
HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding is the largest industrial employer in Virginia, specializing in the design and construction of U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and submarines. The Principal Engineer will establish engineering and design policies, provide centralized leadership for quality and manufacturing issues, and function as the technical expert with delegated decision-making authority across engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities
Establishes and maintains engineering and design policies and standards across the company
Provides centralized engineering leadership and coordination for quality and manufacturing issues that cross product lines
As technical engineering expert, maintains cognizance over and acts on behalf of the Company with regard to technical activities in the assigned AoR
Has delegated decision making authority for the company and apprises the Director, Chief Engineer on the final decisions
Function as the technical engineering expert and will have delegated decision making authority for the company and across programs in the piping engineering discipline
Establish and maintain Engineering & Design polices and standards, establish the Company’s technical policy with respect to the handling of complex, multi contract problems and/or quality issues
Lead and/or direct engineering policies within the technical discipline teams and serves as the single point of contact for engineering matters crossing contracts and product lines
Authority to review and concur with all major departures from specifications
Concurs in all production and/or Industrial Engineering products that could impact safety or product compliance to specifications
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design
Master's Degree and 6 years of relevant experience
PhD and 4 years of relevant experience
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
US Citizenship Required for this Position
Clearance Required: Yes- Final Clearance Required to Start
Travel Requirement: Yes, 10%-25% of the time
