Water Resources Engineer

Headsbase is seeking a motivated mid-level Water Resources Engineer to join their Virginia Beach, VA office. The successful candidate will perform design duties, mentor junior engineers, and grow into a project management role within the Water Resources discipline.

Management Consulting

Responsibilities

Develop drainage and stormwater management designs in accordance with client specifications and guidelines using current design software
Conduct watershed studies and perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses
Analyse survey reports, maps, drawings, aerial photography, and topographical/geological data
Prepare contract documents including scopes, fees, plans, reports, specifications, and cost estimates
Collaborate daily with engineers across multiple disciplines
Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers
Coordinate with contractors, outside consultants, government agencies, and internal staff
Support construction phase services as requested by clients or contractors

Required

Strong knowledge of linear drainage, stormwater management, and erosion & sediment control design
Experience with complex hydrologic and hydraulic modeling
Proficiency in MicroStation OpenRoads Designer, HEC-RAS, and PCSWMM
Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines
Strong time management and budget awareness
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering with emphasis in Water Resources (ABET-accredited program)
4–10 years of Water Resources engineering experience
Professional Engineer (PE) license in Virginia OR ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
Hydrologic modeling experience using TR-55, TR-20, and Rational Methodologies
Hydraulic modeling experience using HEC-RAS, HY-8, HydroCAD, or similar tools
Drainage and stormwater management design experience
Erosion and sediment control design experience
Experience working with local and state-level clients

Preferred

Virginia DEQ certified stormwater management combined administrator
Familiarity with VDOT and Locally Administered Project (LAP) requirements and protocols
Experience with GIS
