Seasonal Recreation Program Assistant

The City of Seward is recruiting for a Seasonal Recreation Program Assistant. This position facilitates recreation activities, provides front line customer service at various parks and recreation facilities, and performs administrative tasks in support of Department activities.

Responsibilities

Facilitates recreational activities, including adult and youth programs, competitive and non-competitive team sports, leagues, tournaments, races, fitness activities, leisure classes, skills clinics, outdoor trips, and special events
Fosters a welcoming and engaging environment for participants, modifies activities as needed based on participants’ actions and feedback
Monitors and ensures the safety of participants and program staff
Cleans and maintains recreation equipment and facilities for public use
Performs administrative tasks such as filling out paperwork and answering telephones
Provides friendly customer service and works collaboratively with others to accomplish tasks
Follows safe work practices
Performs related duties as assigned

Required

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
Some experience working with teens or children
Knowledge of department policies and procedures
Understanding of the objectives of public recreation, human behavior, and mental and physical hygiene as applied to recreational activities
Knowledge of proper safety precautions in the execution of department programs and activities
Ability to use standard office equipment including computers and relevant software programs
Experience working with teens and/or children
Public relations skills
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Effective communication skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret procedure manuals and sports rules books
Ability to engage participants in programs and activities and provide direction as needed
Ability to perform basic mathematical computations
Ability to identify risky behaviors or other areas of concern in program participants and get assistance as needed
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Obtain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification and First Aid certification if required
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, program participants and their parents
Valid driver's license
