Development Finance Manager

San Francisco Opera is seeking a Development Finance Manager to manage the Development Department’s fiscal, analytical, and operational functions related to fundraising. The role involves budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and providing financial data to support strategic fundraising efforts.

Responsibilities

Develop, maintain and update budgets (operational, capital and campaigns) related to fundraising, both revenue and expense
Provide reporting to multiple constituents (e.g., staff, leadership, Board) at various frequencies and various types and formats of reporting regarding the status of financial fundraising and expenditures
Work in close collaboration with the CPO to ensure key objectives and strategic goals are incorporated into all financial projections
Analyze and provide financial and other fundraising-related data in usable and meaningful formats to Department, Executive and Board Leadership constituents that support and inform business actions, convey options, propose recommendations and drive strategy
Serves as the primary liaison with the Finance department for financial needs and actions related to the fundraising department, including but not limited to monthly contributed revenue reconciliations, audit requests, fiscal year end reporting, requests regarding the 990 and state filings
Support the fundraising team with various reporting throughout the year, including but not limited to weekly fundraising revenue reports, FYE and CYE special fundraising status reports, various specific giving history and donor comparison reports as needed
Partner with CPO in overall fundraising outlook and strategy from a financial perspective including reviews of annual metrics: lifetime giving, historical fundraising revenue history, and others
Review, approve, process and track all departmental invoices and expenditures
Respond timely to requests for financial information for various grants and reports, including but not limited to DataArts, Opera America, Koret Foundation, etc
Oversee the financial metrics for an annual company fundraiser and various donor challenge fundraising instances
Analyze departmental financial resource allocations to recommend optimal expenditures in fundraising
Develop forecasting models for revenue projects as appropriate
Reconcile monthly financial close reports and adjust or correct as necessary via journal entry requests to Finance
Ensure all financial results and forecasting complies with GAAP; work with the Finance Department to ensure all necessary supporting documentation is submitted properly

Required

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
Minimum five to seven (5-7) years' experience and proven success in budgeting, preferably in a fundraising environment
Working knowledge of and practical experience with fundraising and reporting contributed revenue
Knowledge of principles and practices of fundraising; financial accounting (GAAP) and budgeting applications; and IRS and FASB regulations regarding charitable giving
Outstanding and proactive solution-oriented problem solving and follow-up skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word and PowerPoint; database skills desirable
Ability to work independently; prioritize tasks; and exercise good judgment and initiative
Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities successfully
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
Outstanding interpersonal skills including the ability to interact with others in a professional, confidential and tactful manner
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
Interest and knowledge in classical music and performing arts
Must perform the functions of the position in a safe manner

Preferred

MBA or CPA
Proficiency in Tessitura revenue management system
Knowledge of Adaptive financial reporting system
