Vice President, Public Policy
The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) is the nation's leading cancer advocacy organization. The Vice President position involves directing public policy strategy and leading the ACS CAN public policy team to support evidence-based policy solutions aimed at eliminating cancer as a major health problem.

Responsibilities
Provides thought leadership to help position the organization as an issue leader, including acting as an organizational spokesperson on key policy issues relevant to cancer patients in the media, on panels and in other public forums. (25%)
As a member of the ACS CAN Senior Leadership Team, sets strategic direction and actively participates in strategic development and implementation of organizational goals and objectives. Communicates with the most senior levels of the organization including presentations for the ACS and ACS CAN Boards of Directors. (20%)
Directs and oversees a collaborative public policy development and review process by leading a team of highly capable senior and junior policy experts responsible for development of ACS CAN’s key public policy portfolios – access to care, emerging science, and prevention and screening. Policy development requires significant interaction with staff across the organization, including American Cancer Society (ACS) Discovery and Patient Support pillars. (20%)
Partners with federal and state advocacy colleagues to provide timely and relevant legislative and regulatory policy interventions. Oversees functional operations for development of policy products for federal and state advocacy initiatives, including legislative analysis, fact sheets, talking points, position statements, toolkits, Q&As, webinars, special reports, and model legislation, ensuring consistency of policies, review and clearance of all advocacy related materials. Demonstrates expert level knowledge of cancer and the health ecosystem and works with colleagues across ACS CAN and ACS to identify emerging health and health-related economic issues with particular emphasis on access to care and health implementation science; process includes issue identification, solicitation of input from staff, analyses and production of relevant written materials. Supports ACS CAN’s federal judicial initiative by providing analysis and developing content for legal actions such as amicus briefs. Identifies, contracts with, and manages consultants to provide expertise on specific initiatives requiring outside expertise, as required to support priority initiatives. (10%)
Strategizes and collaborates as a thought leader in partnership with the SVP of Alliance Development and alliance development team to identify opportunities that both advance ACS CAN mission priorities and generate revenue. (10%)
Qualification
Required
Minimum Degree Required: Master's Degree OR commensurate political or policy experience
15+ years of experience in health policy
8+ years leadership experience
Demonstrated management ability
Strategic level knowledge of public policy advocacy
Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, generally under time pressures
Superior written, oral, research, computer (internet), analytic skills
Ability to work in a team-based environment with competing demands
Preferred
Experience with nonprofit health organization is a plus
