Financial Aid Advisor (Customer Service Specialist Senior)

Responsibilities
This position is responsible for management, administration, development, and research in the areas of higher education funding, specifically the Federal, State, and Institutional Work Study programs, as well as the Federal Pell Grant program
Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for remaining informed of financial aid regulations to accurately counsel students on all aspects pertaining to financial aid and to provide leadership for the functions of the department
This position serves all areas of the College and assists the Director of Financial Aid in carrying out the work of the office
Qualification
Required
Knowledge of math sufficient to perform complex math calculations
Skill in data entry sufficient to maintain accurate records and reports
Knowledge of word processing sufficient to use software to create, format, edit, print, and save a variety of documents, such as Microsoft Word and Excel
Knowledge of customer services practices to provide prompt and accurate information to customers in person, on the phone, and through email and other written or electronic correspondence
Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers
Preferred
Working knowledge of Federal and State financial aid programs and regulations
Ability to assist with counseling and work study supervision
Ability to maintain the confidentiality of private information to comply with laws, policies, and procedures
Ability to interpret, understand, and explain extremely complex State and Federal regulations governing the programs
Skills in accuracy, comprehension, and memory ability are necessary
Ability to work well in a high stress, high pressure environment and to deal with people in a calm and professional manner
Ability to manage, plan, organize, and administer multiple activities/tasks and meet deadlines
Knowledge of the Minnesota State ISRS computer system, particularly with the financial aid module, along with other complex computer systems and applications, such as those developed by the Minnesota Office of Higher Education
Ability to work independently to carry out Federal, State, and Institutional policies and procedures of the financial aid office and in the absence of the Supervisor make decisions and take appropriate action
Ability to develop presentations and be able to provide public speaking engagements on topics of financial aid to groups of 50+ individuals
