CORRECTIONAL ADMINISTRATOR-EAST REGION - 74732
The Tennessee Department of Correction operates and oversees adult prisons and community supervision programs. The Correctional Administrator will serve as a technical advisor to facility wardens, overseeing correctional management and ensuring compliance with security and operational standards in their assigned region.
Law Enforcement
Responsibilities
Provides effective oversight to the Wardens to identify and develop innovative job opportunities and programs that reduce inmate idleness and promote successful re-entry into society
Informs the Deputy Assistant Commissioner/Assistant Commissioner as appropriate for any irregularities at their institutions
Coordinates and evaluates informational requests and reports from central office to determine if information is responsive and adequate
Reviews and advises institution officials as appropriate
Evaluates and reviews the effectiveness of controls to meet security requirements and other operations involving institution security
Reviews and comments on policies for development and revisions
Reviews use of force incidents and segregation placements
Occasionally serve as a consultant to other correctional entities on security matters
Represents the Tennessee Department of Correction when designated at meetings with individuals, groups, and organizations interested in correctional institution management
May be called into court to serve as an expert witness
Prepares and/or supervises responses to Grievances, staff and inmate complaints, and legislative inquiries
Supervisory work and related managerial responsibilities constitute a major duty and require work accomplishment through the combined technical and administrative direction of subordinate employees
Supervisory functions comprise a range of duties, including planning, organizing, reviewing work, administering personnel matters, and dealing effectively with others
Specific supervisory responsibilities may include assigning, directing, and reviewing the work of subordinates; evaluating work performance; identifying training needs; recommending selections, promotions, disciplinary or other actions; and planning and determining the material, equipment, and facilities needed to perform the work
Qualification
Required
A bachelor's degree with ten (10) years of increasingly responsible management and administrative experience in adult security, law enforcement, probation/parole, rehabilitative services, correctional intelligence, correctional compliance, or another related program
