Information Technology
Responsibilities
Prepare, submit, and track permit applications for underground fiber construction
Coordinate with city, county, and state agencies regarding trenching, boring, conduit placement, and restoration standards
Review design packages for permitting completeness and accuracy
Ensure all required drawings, TCPs, and supporting documentation meet local standards
Maintain communication with Chicago-area AHJs throughout the approval process
Flag potential delays or documentation gaps prior to submission
Manage timelines, approvals, re-submittals, and follow-up cycles
Maintain comprehensive permitting logs and compliance documentation
Act as the permitting subject-matter expert for the Chicago region
Qualification
Required
Hands-on experience submitting and managing permits for underground OSP fiber projects
Must have permitting experience with Chicago-area agencies, such as: City of Chicago (CDOT / Streets & Sanitation), Cook County, Illinois DOT (District 1), City of Oak Brook, City of Schaumburg, City of Naperville, City of Evanston, City of Rosemont, City of Cicero
Strong understanding of underground fiber construction (trenching, HDD, conduit placement, restoration requirements)
Ability to interpret OSP drawings, utility maps, and traffic control plans
Strong organizational and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple permitting workflows across multiple agencies
Candidates ideally reside in Illinois, but remote is acceptable if they have proven Chicago permitting experience
Preferred
Prior permitting coordination for fiber builders, carriers, or engineering firms
Experience supporting underground fiber routes serving enterprise or data center builds in the Chicago region
Familiarity with local utility stakeholders such as ComEd, Peoples Gas, and city/county public works departments
Understanding of microtrenching, HDD approvals, and underground utility conflict mitigation
Experience using client permitting portals and project tracking systems
