Assistant Electrical Engineer

Las Vegas Valley Water District is seeking an Assistant Electrical Engineer to perform engineering work in the research, design, and construction of electrical and instrumentation elements of water works projects. The ideal candidate will prepare construction contract documents, assist in project scheduling, and perform various engineering calculations and inspections.

Responsibilities

Prepare construction contract documents involving the design of electrical distribution, transmission, communications, and instrumentation and controls systems projects
Demonstrate the ability to write specifications, prepare plans and work orders, and calculate cost estimates for various electrical and instrumentation engineering projects
Assist in developing project schedules
Perform electrical engineering and instrumentation calculations
Review drawings and specifications prepared by division technical staff or by consulting engineers
Administer District standards on electrical engineering and instrumentation design projects
Perform submittal reviews and plan checks to ensure contractor compliance with District specifications
Perform field site inspections to evaluate proposed project feasibility
Assist more senior staff engineers in preparing project design criteria
Provide electrical engineering and instrumentation information and assistance to other District departments, outside agencies and other constituencies
Prepare engineering correspondence and memoranda
Prepare and maintain a variety of records, data bases, files, drawings, etc., pertaining to the electrical and instrumentation systems

Required

Graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in electrical engineering or a closely related field
One year of professional electrical engineering experience or an equivalent amount of professional engineering work experience
A valid Nevada driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's Vehicle Insurance Policy
Knowledge of principles and practices of electrical engineering
Knowledge of engineering mathematics
Knowledge of construction materials, methods and equipment pertaining to electrical and instrumentation elements of a water system
Knowledge of micro-computer engineering applications
Knowledge of applicable codes, regulations and standards relating to water utility engineering
Ability to perform detailed analyses of electrical, telemetry instrumentation and control designs, specifications and plans
Ability to apply engineering principles and techniques to evaluate and solve simple to difficult electrical engineering problems
Ability to make or check complex engineering computations quickly and accurately
Ability to coordinate and review the work of technical subordinates
Ability to use a micro-computer in engineering applications
Ability to exercise sound, independent judgment in performing assigned projects
Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public, District staff, engineering firms, contractors, developers, manufacturers and others
Ability to prepare clear, concise and accurate engineering reports and documents

Preferred

Prior experience in potable water conveyance systems improvements
