Early Intervention Behavioral Health Specialist
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is one of the largest agencies in the state, focusing on health and human services for special populations. The Early Intervention Behavioral Health Specialist is responsible for providing evaluation, assessment, and behavioral health treatment services to children with developmental concerns and their families, ensuring they receive appropriate early intervention supports and services.

Responsibilities
Provide evaluation, assessment and behavioral health treatment services to children with developmental concerns and their families
Conduct developmental assessments and multi-disciplinary developmental evaluations to determine eligibility for the NCITP and assess child and family needs for early intervention supports and services
Develop the initial Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) that includes functional family-centered routine based goals and strategies, along with appropriate specialized supports
Provide consultation to CDSA staff and staff contracted with the CDSA around mental and behavioral health issues
Involved in community development activities to promote resources and supports for children with developmental needs
Qualification
Required
Master's degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution; or Bachelor's degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of directly related experience; or Master's degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of directly related experience; or Bachelor's degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Must have behavioral health clinical license (e.g., LCSW, LPA, LPC, LMFT, etc.) to practice therapy in NC
Preferred
Conducted standardized evaluations and behavioral health assessments to inform service planning
Supported families in developing outcomes for inclusion in the Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP)
Delivered behavioral health treatment to children and their caregivers across diverse needs
Integrated families into the intervention process through collaborative, strengths‑based practices
Coached parents and caregivers to embed skill‑building strategies into daily routines for ongoing development
