The role involves providing practical experience and support across various finance-related tasks including internal audits, compliance tracking, and financial planning.

Responsibilities
Assist with internal audit projects by documenting processes, controls, and workflows
Perform basic testing of transactions and internal controls under supervision
Prepare audit workpapers, schedules, and summaries and participate in department walkthroughs
Assist with tracking compliance activities, policies, and required documentation
Support monitoring and reporting for regulatory and organizational requirements
Maintain compliance logs, dashboards, and confidentiality standards
Assist with general ledger activities, reconciliations, and account analysis
Support month-end and year-end close processes and documentation
Prepare journal entry support and basic financial schedules
Assist with analysis of payer reimbursement and healthcare revenue streams
Support preparation and review of claims, payment, and variance reports
Gather and organize data for cost reports and reimbursement filings
Assist with annual budgeting and forecasting activities
Support data collection, validation, and variance analysis
Prepare budget-related reports and materials for finance leadership
Collaborate with finance team members across multiple functional areas
Use Excel and other tools to analyze, organize, and document financial data
Maintain accurate records and adhere to policies, procedures, and confidentiality requirements
Complete assigned projects on time and seek guidance as needed
Take initiative to take on extra assignments or to assist others during periods of increased activity
Provides clerical support as needed
Demonstrate a positive, courteous, and helpful attitude toward co-workers within and outside of the department
All other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Must be a current college student with a focus in Accounting
Must have a working knowledge of reading, writing, mathematical and computer skills as normally acquired through college courses
Must be able to work independently, accurately follow directions and possess good organizational skills
Must have professional interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals either in person or on the phone

Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s)
Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time
May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching
Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material
Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required
Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake
Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling
May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis
Physical Demand Level: Sedentary. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 0-10 lbs
Preferred
Completion of college intermediate level accounting courses preferred
