Staff Accountant (A/P and A/R)

The Jewish Community Federation of Richmond (JCFR) mobilizes resources to build and sustain a vibrant Jewish community. The Staff Accountant will manage daily accounts payable and receivable activities, maintain accurate ledgers, ensure compliance with internal controls, and support overall financial stewardship in service to the Federation's mission.

Civic and Social Organizations

Responsibilities

Process and verify vendor invoices and employee expense reports
Ensure precise coding, approvals, and prompt payment through check runs and electronic transfers
Reconcile vendor statements and resolve payment discrepancies
Record all incoming payments—checks, ACH, credit cards—and apply them accurately
Generate and distribute invoices for pledges, programs, events, and deliverables
Maintain aging reports; initiate collections and follow-up as needed
Respond to donor and constituent inquiries; maintain accurate donor transaction records
Maintain organized and current financial documentation
Perform month-end account reconciliations and support closing procedures
Assist with audit preparation and compliance documentation
Promote sound internal controls and adherence to Federation policies
Proactively maintain adequate supply needs for the general office, communicating with colleagues and external vendors as needed to ensure consistent state of preparedness

Required

Associate degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; Bachelor's preferred
Minimum of 2 years' experience managing AP/AR functions, preferably within a nonprofit
Proficiency in accounting and CRM software (e.g., QuickBooks, Microsoft Dynamics), founded by exceptional skills using the suite of MS Office products (Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.)
Demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, organizational aptitude, and integrity handling confidential data
Excellent communication and customer service abilities

Preferred

Experience with nonprofit accounting and donor management systems
Familiarity with Jewish communal life and sensitivity to Jewish culture, traditions, and values
