5+ years expPDS is seeking a Principal Data Engineer to join their client at a pivotal moment as they scale across markets and value‑based care arrangements. The role focuses on building a scalable, durable data platform to support analytics, product measurement, and operational visibility.

Responsibilities
Own the end‑to‑end design of the data platform, including warehouse, lake, and ingestion architecture
Build and operate production data pipelines across clinical, operational, and third‑party systems (APIs, CDC, events)
Define core analytical and longitudinal data models used across the company
Build robust ingestion frameworks, including CDC, API-based ingestion, and event/webhook pipelines
Implement testing, monitoring, and observability practices to ensure data quality, reliability, and performance
Improve scalability, performance, and cost‑efficiency of data systems
Partner with Product to ensure data systems support metric definitions, outcome measurement, and roadmap priorities
Qualification
Required
5+ years in data engineering or backend engineering with significant data platform ownership
Proven experience designing and building data infrastructure, pipelines, and data models from scratch
Strong computer science fundamentals and experience with distributed systems
Hands‑on experience with modern data platforms and SQL-based transformation workflows
Experience operating production‑grade data pipelines
Ability to diagnose and resolve performance, reliability, and data quality issues
Strong ownership mindset and comfort operating in fast‑growing, ambiguous environments
Clear communication skills and ability to partner with technical and non‑technical stakeholders
Preferred
Experience in healthcare, care delivery, or regulated data environments
Familiarity with HIPAA and handling sensitive health or customer data
Experience with streaming pipelines or event‑driven architectures
Experience implementing data observability, lineage, or quality monitoring tools
Experience building dashboards or analytical outputs for executives and frontline teams
Familiarity with AI‑assisted development tools
Early‑stage startup experience
