Process Development Engineer
Oil-Dri Corporation of America is a global leader in specialty sorbent products used across various markets. The Process Development Engineer role involves hands-on work with equipment to scale up new products from lab to production, focusing on troubleshooting and optimizing processes.
Responsibilities
Scale-up of new products from lab to pilot plant to production
Pumps, spray systems, mixers, dryers, material handling systems
Pilot-scale equipment setup, operation, teardown, and cleaning
Designing and running process trials, collecting real performance data
Equipment troubleshooting and process optimization during launches
Supporting manufacturing sites with startup and improvement projects
Working directly with vendors, toll processors, and external partners
Lead and execute pilot-plant process studies using production-relevant equipment
Assemble equipment, materials, and teams to run scale-up trials
Plan project timelines, costs, and deliverables; document results clearly
Support Operations with equipment-focused problem solving
Perform physical and chemical testing on prototypes
Maintain pilot plant equipment and ensure safe operation
Qualification
Required
BS in Mechanical Engineering
2-5 years of hands-on process or manufacturing equipment experience
Experience with drying, spraying, mixing, pumping, or bulk solids handling
Comfortable working in a pilot plant / warehouse environment
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting mindset
Ability to lift 50 lbs; forklift experience a plus (training provided)
Willingness to travel 25-50% to manufacturing sites
