This role is responsible for overseeing the prisoner security classification process, coordinating facility transfers, and supervising the Special Activities Coordinator, among other duties.

Responsibilities

Responsible for the oversight and planning of the entire prisoner security classification process for CFA; including federal, international, and out of state transfers, as well as development and implementation of polices related to prisoner security classification, transfer, and transportation
Oversees the coordination and planning of all facility transfers for Programming needs
Provide supervision and oversight of the Departments only statewide Special Activities Coordinator, who is responsible for all Religious Activities, Religious Programming and all Religious meal approvals
Review, evaluate and direct the facility staff in the maintenance of head count screens and security screens in OMS
Monitor and evaluate the Reception Center intake process to ensure appropriate bed space is made available
Oversee requests for the START Program, AD Seg, and SPON
Monitor single cell approvals and removals
Complete special assignments as required by the Assistant Deputy Director of Operations and/or Deputy Director
Occasional travel to correctional facilities throughout the state to attend meetings and participate in training sessions

Required

Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major
Four years of professional experience, including two years equivalent to the experienced (P11) level or one year equivalent to the advanced (12) level
Education level typically acquired through completion of high school and two years of safety and regulatory or law enforcement experience at the 14 level; or, one year of safety and regulatory or law enforcement experience at the 15 level, may be substituted for the education and experience requirements
New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification
Employment in the state classified service demands a high degree of loyalty and imposes high ethical standards on employees to ensure the integrity of state government and maintain effective services
Certain positions may require a criminal history background check
The Department of Corrections may screen out job applicants who have been convicted of a felony in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017

Preferred

At least two years of professional management experience in screening, analyzing, and appraising facts and precedents when making administrative decisions
