Responsibilities

Provide Fire Protection Design Engineering staff augmentation support to SRNS
Primary responsibilities include engineering task analysis, walk-downs, design development and generation of design output documents
Typical deliverables, based on the area(s) of expertise, include Plan Drawings, Elevation Drawings, Piping Isometrics, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams, Riser Details, Hydraulic Calculations, Sway Brace Calculations, Connection Diagrams, Conduit / Block Diagrams, Logic Diagrams, Panel Detail Drawings, and Battery Loading Calculations
Provide technical support to site construction forces, start-up & testing, suppliers, or subcontract personnel
Prepare Data Sheets, Statements of Work, Procurement Specifications, and Design Build Specifications
Design services shall be provided using SRNS processes and procedures
Programmatic guidance will be provided by SRNS
Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance
Candidate must demonstrate ten (10) years of recent design experience, four (4) of which shall be in the following area of expertise: Fire Alarm, Detection and Signaling Design - General knowledge of electrical/control systems, connection diagrams, layout plans, logic diagrams, panel layout details, P&ID’s, and battery loading calculations
Working knowledge of NFPA Codes and Standards, and National Consensus Codes and Standards such as NFPA 13, NFPA 70, NFPA 72, NFPA 90A, NFPA 101, IBC, and various other ISA and IEEE standards
Experience with 2D MicroStation Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD)
Ability to operate Windows Microsoft Office Applications
Candidate must be able to perform weekly field walk downs of the job site for the engineering work being performed. These walk downs may involve construction sites with uneven surfaces and work in progress, walking for distances of over half a mile, climbing of ladders to access remote areas, dressing out in protective clothing and environments where a respirator is required

Required

Ph.D. degree in applicable science or engineering discipline and 5+ years' experience
OR A MS with 8+ years' experience
OR A BS with 10+ years' experience or more
Graduate of an ABET accredited Fire Protection Engineering program
OR BS degree in an engineering discipline and at least one of the following: Registered Professional Engineer in Fire Protection, Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) NICET Level III/IV certification in the Fire Alarm, Detection and Signaling area of expertise, Professional or Fellow Member in the SFPE

Previous SRS Design Engineering or DOE facility experience
Proficiency in using MicroStation 2D Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) software
Previous SRS design experience and familiarity with the processes and procedures for providing engineering support to SRS facilities
Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years are preferred
