Responsibilities

Establishes and maintains engineering and design policies and standards across the company
Provides centralized engineering leadership and coordination for quality and manufacturing issues that cross product lines
Maintains cognizance over and acts on behalf of the Company with regard to technical activities in the assigned AoR
Has delegated decision making authority for the company and apprises the Director, Chief Engineer on the final decisions
Serves as the Company’s technical authority for standards related to structural engineering across all programs
Understands how it interrelates with each facet of the value stream
Provides rapid resolution of complex and/or cross-platform technical issues via a technical oversight role, while mentoring the Lead Material Investigators and team members
Serves as the primary interface with the customer for numerous high-visibility independent review teams

Required

Bachelor's Degree and 8 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; Master's Degree and 6 years of relevant experience; PhD and 4 years of relevant experience
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
US Citizenship Required for this Position: Yes
Clearance Required: Yes- Final Clearance Required to Start
Travel Requirement: Yes, 10%-25% of the time

Preferred

Experience in submarine hull design is desired
