Responsibilities

Assist with the synthesis and characterization of nanoporous materials
Assist with testing material properties including crystallinity, porosity, thermal stability, electron microscopy
The position would best suit a student with an interest in chemistry, materials science or chemical engineering. Responsibilities include using synthesis of new materials using various methods, data collection, data analysis, and the ability to maintain a safe laboratory working environment

Required

Currently attending and enrolled full time in the spring term immediately preceding the internship (or scheduled to graduate in the spring) in an accredited undergraduate program
Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents, asylees or refugees in the U.S

Preferred

Good oral and written communication skills and strong self-initiative and self-responsibility. Suitable personal references may be offered to help demonstrate this ability
Ability to contribute in a team environment; strong self-motivation and enthusiasm to acquire work experience in a materials research and characterization laboratory
General knowledge and good understanding of a suite of software, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Experience with working in a chemistry laboratory in general and material synthesis, in particular and outstanding academic performance
The ability to work independently and self-sufficiently with high reliability and attention to detail as part of a larger team effort
