Director of Business Development
Chroma Energy Group is a high-growth Renewable Energy start-up company headquartered in Knoxville, TN. The Director of Business Development will lead growth across the commercial and industrial solar portfolio, focusing on building and maintaining strong partnerships while driving new project opportunities from initial contact through contract execution.
Responsibilities
Serve on Chroma’s executive team and focus on identifying potential solar, battery storage, and microgrid project and partnership opportunities
Drive Chroma’s market approach in a rapidly changing industry. Understand new technologies entering the marketplace and be able to assess the viability
Develop & maintain a network of solar developers/contractors while also building strong internal relationships across all functions necessary to be successful
Lead early-stage project discussions, including site feasibility coordination, financial modeling collaboration, and preliminary system concepts
Understand project design and economic drivers, analyze market factors, financing terms, new legislation/regulation for impact to project economics
Proficiently perform all required sales activities including: sales prospecting, partner development, account management, site evaluations, proposals, presentations, networking, pipeline reporting, contract negotiation, and other general business functions in support of the sales efforts
Represent Chroma Energy Group at industry events, trade shows, and networking functions to increase brand awareness and generate qualified leads
Work closely with engineering, project management, and operations teams to ensure smooth transition from sales to execution
Manage CRM activity, sales forecasting, and reporting to executive leadership
Negotiate contracts and pricing strategies in alignment with margins and project objectives
Provide market intelligence on competitors, pricing trends, and customer needs
Qualification
Required
3-5 years of experience in a Strategic Business Development role
Experience in the Renewable Energy/Solar industry is a plus
Proven success in building long-term relationships and closing high complex, high value deals
Strong network within commercial real estate, development, manufacturing, healthcare, or industrial sectors preferred
Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
Ability to manage multiple long-cycle opportunities simultaneously
Comfortable engaging with executives, engineers, financial stakeholders, and technical teams
Willingness to travel locally and regionally as needed
