Responsibilities

Build and own financial and valuation models for potential transactions, including detailed P&L and cash-flow forecasts, sales and pipeline analyses, and synergy and scenario modeling
Analyze diligence data across financial, operational, and customer metrics – often with incomplete or imperfect information – to assess business quality, identify risks, and inform investment decisions
Own and drive defined deal workstreams, including initial screening, diligence planning, cross-functional coordination, and process management, with increasing independence over time. Ensure timelines, deliverables, and communications stay on track from initial evaluation through integration planning
Synthesize cross-functional findings (such as Product, Engineering, GTM, Finance, Legal, HR), surfacing insights, risks, and open questions. Prepare clear summaries and recommendations for senior leadership
Help develop and, over time, take ownership of investment theses for potential areas of expansion by framing key questions, evaluating build/partner/buy tradeoffs, and pressure-testing assumptions with senior stakeholders. Build market maps, company profiles, and strategic briefs that inform OpenGov’s long-term growth decisions
Shape and maintain OpenGov’s M&A pipeline by monitoring market developments, gathering intelligence from internal stakeholders and customers, and identifying high-potential targets aligned with long-term corporate strategy
Contribute to select Strategic Finance initiatives such as long-range planning, ROI-driven investment prioritization, and data-driven analyses that support key business and product decisions
Develop clear, concise presentations and analyses for senior leadership, advising stakeholders on key tradeoffs, risks, and implications to support decision-making. Translate complex financial and strategic concepts into actionable insights and maintain organized documentation across active and historical initiatives
Act as a thought partner to Strategic Finance team members and cross-functional partners by sharing best practices in diligence, modelling, and market research

Required

1-3 years of experience in investment banking, corporate development, private equity, venture capital, or strategic finance
Strong financial modeling and valuation skills, with proficiency in Excel and the ability to build models from scratch
Ability to synthesize complex financial and strategic information into clear insights
Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing materials for and presenting to senior audiences
High level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion when handling sensitive information
Demonstrated ownership mindset and ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, with the ability to work in-office four days per week
Bachelor's degree

Preferred

Interest in the public sector, civic technology, or mission-driven software
Experience supporting M&A or strategic transactions, including diligence, modeling, or integration work
Experience in SaaS, enterprise software, or B2B technology
Exposure to strategic planning, forecasting, or board/investor reporting
Familiarity with BI or analytical tools (e.g., Looker, Salesforce, Adaptive)
