Structural Inspector

Responsibilities
Structural Steel: Bolting, welding, high strength bolted connections, member alignment, coatings
Reinforced Concrete: Placement, consolidation, curing, rebar size/spacing/cover, formwork, PT operations
Prestressed/Post-Tensioned Concrete: Tendon installation, stressing, grouting, elongation verification
Masonry: Reinforcement, grout, construction methods, lintels/bearing
Foundations & Deep Foundations: Drilled shafts, piles, anchors; bearing capacity verification and integrity tests
Coordinate and witness material testing (e.g., cylinders, weld tests, UT/MT/PT/NDT)
Perform inspections in active terminal, airfield, and landside environments, coordinating work sequencing to maintain uninterrupted airport operations
Verify compliance with AISC, AWS, ACI, PTI, TMS, FAA Advisory Circulars, AUS Design & Construction Standards, and City of Austin requirements
Review and verify shop drawings, erection plans, welding procedures (WPS/PQR), bolt installation methods, and special inspection plans
Observe and document structural load testing, erection sequencing, temporary shoring/bracing, and stability measures
Identify, track, and verify resolution of non-conforming structural work through corrective action and reinspection
Support substantial completion, punch list, and final acceptance activities for structural scopes
Conduct field inspections to verify conformance with approved contract documents and applicable codes
Review contractor work for compliance with specifications, manufacturer instructions, and regulatory standards
Coordinate daily activities with third-party inspectors and project stakeholders, including ABIA Operations, Environmental teams, City inspectors, and AUS personnel
Document deficiencies and communicate findings to the Contractor, Construction Manager and CDS inspectors in a timely manner
Support Construction Managers in verifying installed quantities for Pay Applications
Maintain accurate daily inspection reports detailing work reviewed and observations made
Participate in change management processes and assist in schedule evaluations
Navigate and utilize project documentation including design drawings, specifications, Design Standards Manual, and contract terms
Occasional night-time work may be required based on project demands
Qualification
Required
Minimum of 10 years of experience in the construction industry
Structural Inspector – Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), Steel
Demonstrated aviation-related construction experience, including work on taxiways, runways, terminals, and underground utilities
Ability to pass a TSA criminal history background check
In-depth knowledge of environmental codes and regulatory requirements
Familiarity with discipline-specific codes and standards (e.g., NEC, IMC, IPC, SMACNA, IBC, IEEE)
Ability to interpret and coordinate with third-party inspection reports
Strong understanding of contract documents, technical specifications, and design standards
Valid Driver's License
Experience working in secured, safety-sensitive environments, preferably active airports or similar critical infrastructure
Strong working knowledge of airfield safety protocols, including FOD control and work near active runways/taxiways
Ability to obtain and maintain airport security badging and AOA access
Proficiency with electronic inspection and reporting systems (Procore, e-Builder, Unifier, or similar)
Conduct field inspections to verify conformance with approved contract documents and applicable codes
Review contractor work for compliance with specifications, manufacturer instructions, and regulatory standards

Must be alert to equipment in the field, occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery, ability to walk on uneven ground while physically maneuvering construction sites, ability to work in extreme temperatures or humidity, and potentially work at heights
Possession of a valid state of residence driver's license with a clean driving record
Daily travel to and from construction sites, generally within 100 miles from the home office is expected
Short term, out of town, assignments may be required
Long term, out of town, assignments may be required, with advance notice of planned dates
May be required to work protracted and irregular hours to meet client's needs, including nights, overtime and weekends
