Responsibilities
Provide statistical support (both sampling and analysis) to all DFAS Operations organizations
Develops new, and updates existing statistical (survey) sampling plans for various reviews and applications within DFAS and the Department of Defense (DoD), using professional texts and publications on statistical (survey) sampling methodology
Provide quantitative analytical support to both DFAS and external DoD customers (e.g., service components and Defense Agencies) for statistical applications
Verifies information at the request of the DoD Comptroller's Office, military service members, and other DoD components
Analyzes using various statistical methods; such as descriptive, inferential, univariate, multivariate and non-parametric models
Constructs mathematical models of sampling plans using SPSS, Microsoft Excel, or other software programs appropriate for the specific type of data involved in the project and in adherence with applicable guidelines and regulations
Interprets and presents, both orally and in writing, results from quantitative analyses of data collected from quality or financial reviews
Serves as statistical consultant on teams and special projects providing professional and technical guidance in areas of statistical (survey) sampling and quantitative methods of data analysis

This position has a positive education requirement. To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirement described below: A. Degree: that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc
OR B. Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance

In addition to meeting the basic requirement, qualified applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-11) in the Federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position
Specialized experience is defined as experience such as: Experience applying advanced statistical principles to large-scale financial and accounting systems. This includes designing and implementing statistical sampling plans to test financial transactions, performing complex data analysis using software like SPSS or SAS, and applying a wide range of analytical techniques such as regression and variance analysis
