Responsibilities
Serve as Lead Technical Engineer and/or Responsible Engineer for assigned mechanical modification projects
Develop complete mechanical design packages, including conceptual designs, scoping studies, and technical specifications for bidding purposes
Perform mechanical design, analysis, and evaluation for systems and components, ranging from component modifications to full system redesigns
Evaluate alternative design solutions and provide technically sound recommendations to improve system and/or component performance
Develop design inputs, calculations, and documentation supporting mechanical modifications
Prepare design revisions and ensure proper turnover of finalized design products
Support post-modification testing activities and design closeout
Provide technical support during field implementation and follow work through installation
Coordinate design activities with internal stakeholders, vendors, and external engineering organizations
Conduct owner’s reviews of outsourced design products to ensure compliance with site standards and regulatory requirements
Support project schedules and implementation activities, including off-normal hours when required
Participate in and support design package reviews
Obtain and maintain required qualifications to act independently as a Responsible Engineer for modifications within Duke Energy
Ensure designs comply with applicable regulatory requirements, site engineering standards, and procedures, including 10 CFR 50.59 where applicable
Demonstrate sound technical judgment and provide technical guidance to engineering and implementation teams
Work collaboratively within a team-based engineering environment
Support engineering processes related to work order development and design control systems
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or an equivalent engineering degree with relevant mechanical engineering experience
Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience in the nuclear industry, including experience with mechanical design modification preparation
Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access to a nuclear facility, including: General Employee Training (GET), Radiation Worker Training, Security clearance and Fitness for Duty requirements
Strong written and verbal communication skills in a professional engineering environment
Demonstrated ability to research engineering and design issues, evaluate alternatives, and develop sound technical recommendations
Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment
Preferred
Registration/licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE)
Prior mechanical engineering experience at the Brunswick Nuclear Plant
Experience applying 10 CFR 50.59 to the design and evaluation of nuclear facility modifications
Prior qualification as a Modification Engineer under an INPO-accredited program
Familiarity with Consolidated Asset Suite (CAS) for design and work order development
