Staff Backend Engineer - Billing and Revenue Systems

The Staff Backend Engineer will be responsible for building and maintaining the financial backbone of the business, including billing, invoicing, and payments workflows, while ensuring systems are correct, auditable, and resilient.

Responsibilities

You will be the backend owner for internal systems at the intersection of engineering, finance, and operations:

Billing & invoicing engines: lifecycle orchestration, credits and adjustments, taxes/fees (as applicable), dispute workflows

Payments & financial workflows: integrations, retries, reconciliation, and prevention of double-charging or double-posting

Ledger-like correctness: immutable event history where needed, strict invariants, and clear audit trails

Operational tooling: backend correctness is the core focus, minimal admin or internal UI when required

A clear domain model and event vocabulary that aligns finance and engineering

Reduced ambiguity and fewer manual fixes through strong reconciliation and reporting primitives

Safer change management: new billing requirements ship without corrupting the existing state

A system resilient by design to retries, replays, partial failures, and edge cases

Required

Backend services in Python, Go, or JVM languages

Linux-native development and production operations

Event-driven architectures (Kafka or similar) for business workflows

Integrations with payment processors, tax engines, accounting systems, or ERPs

Experience with marketplace billing models (multi-party flows, credits, partner programs)
