Responsibilities
Apply intermediate professional Information Systems concepts to support the reliable operation of CAIDA’s dataset-access systems and related workflows
Work within established procedures to help ensure that the applications and automated processes used to deliver scientific research datasets function consistently, are well-documented, and remain accessible to authorized users
Assist in resolving routine issues affecting workflow behavior, updating configuration and descriptor files, and running scheduled automation tasks that support scientific data-access operations
Maintain structured descriptor files and system-generated metadata associated with scientific dataset-access workflows, ensuring information required for dataset releases is kept current in accordance with established procedures
Document system behaviors, update user-facing materials, and communicate procedural information to external users of scientific datasets
Support account and credential management for dataset-access systems, respond to routine inquiries, and provide guidance on established access procedures while escalating complex issues as appropriate
Contribute to the preparation and maintenance of clear documentation describing how scientific datasets are accessed, organized, access procedures, workflow behaviors, and resource availability
Assist with routine testing activities and provide feedback on system behavior during evaluations, and documentation updates that help maintain stable and well-understood data-access workflows
Update scripts under guidance to automate recurring tasks or summarize workflow logs for internal reporting needs and maintain internal records of dataset-access activity generated by CAIDA’s systems and help ensure that information needed for project documentation is accurate and current
Collaborate with technical staff to report routine operational issues, suggest updates to documentation when recurring issues are observed, and support consistent operation of CAIDA’s data-access applications and services
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
General knowledge of several areas of IT
Demonstrated ability to read, write, and adapt Python scripts
Familiarity with reading and modifying HTML, YAML, or XML markup files
Demonstrated ability to install software and troubleshoot and repair moderately complex problems with computing devices, peripherals and software
Understanding of system performance monitoring and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance
Basic knowledge of incident response procedures
Demonstrated ability to follow software specifications
Knowledge of data management systems, practices and standards
Demonstrated understanding of how system management actions affect users and dependent / related functions
Demonstrated ability to write and modify basic shell scripts used in routine operational tasks in Linux operating systems, particularly Ubuntu
Preferred
Masters degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training preferred
