Executive Director, Clinical Operations
Clinovo is a growth-stage biotechnology company seeking a seasoned Executive Director to lead and execute the clinical operations function. The role involves overseeing global Phase II–III oncology trials and building a high-impact clinical operations team while ensuring alignment with corporate priorities.
Responsibilities
Establish and scale the clinical operations function to support late-phase oncology development
Translate clinical development strategy into executable operational plans that support key value-inflection milestones
Partner closely with executive leadership to align clinical execution with corporate, financing, and portfolio priorities
Lead the end-to-end operational execution of global Phase II–III oncology trials, including planning, startup, enrollment, monitoring, and close-out
Provide direct oversight of study teams to ensure timelines, quality, and budget commitments are met
Drive feasibility assessments, country and site strategy, and enrollment optimization in competitive oncology landscapes
Recruit, develop, and lead a lean, high-impact clinical operations team, including Directors and Senior Directors
Serve as a player-coach—comfortable rolling up sleeves while also setting strategy and direction
Build a culture of accountability, agility, and continuous improvement
Lead CRO selection, contracting, and governance, with an emphasis on fit-for-purpose, cost-effective delivery models
Establish pragmatic oversight frameworks, KPIs, and escalation pathways appropriate for a growth-stage organization
Manage key vendors (e.g., central labs, imaging, eCOA, eTMF) with a focus on quality and capital efficiency
Proactively identify operational risks related to enrollment, vendor performance, data integrity, and regulatory compliance
Ensure inspection readiness across studies, supporting audits and regulatory interactions as needed
Implement scalable processes and systems that can grow with the organization
Own and manage clinical operations budgets across late-phase programs
Drive thoughtful internal vs. external resourcing decisions to maximize speed and efficiency
Support long-range planning in preparation for pivotal milestones, submissions, and potential commercialization
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree required
15+ years of progressive clinical operations experience in biotech, pharma, and/or CRO environments
Very strong oncology experience
Strong background in running large, global Phase 3 oncology studies
Line management experience
Experience in a small biotech setting (fast-moving, running lean, etc.)
Deep hands-on experience leading late-phase global oncology clinical trials
Demonstrated success building and scaling clinical operations teams in growth-stage or emerging biotech companies
Strong CRO oversight and vendor management expertise in lean operating models
Solid understanding of global regulatory requirements (FDA, EMA, ICH-GCP)
Entrepreneurial mindset with comfort operating in ambiguity
Strategic yet highly execution-oriented; able to move seamlessly between the details and the big picture
Strong people leader with a track record of developing talent
Pragmatic decision-maker focused on speed, quality, and capital efficiency
Trusted partner to executive leadership and cross-functional teams
