Senior Casting & Process Engineer

Responsibilities

Own and support centrifugal casting processes, including setup, operation, and continuous improvement
Provide hands-on technical support for furnace operations, including melt control, temperature management, alloy handling, and process troubleshooting
Optimize casting parameters such as: Melt temperature, Mold preheat, Spin rate / G-forces, Solidification behavior
Partner with maintenance and operations to ensure furnace reliability, uptime, and safe operation
Serve as the metallurgical subject-matter expert for casting operations
Work directly with metal alloys, with strong preference for carbide-based and wear-resistant alloys
Analyze and resolve casting-related defects including porosity, cracking, bonding issues, and material inconsistencies
Apply metallurgical principles to improve product quality, consistency, and performance
Support alloy selection, material qualification, and process documentation
Support and improve heat treatment processes tied directly to casting outcomes
Correlate microstructure, processing conditions, and mechanical performance
Lead root-cause analysis for internal quality issues and customer claims
Ensure compliance with quality systems, specifications, and documentation requirements
Work directly on the shop floor with operators, supervisors, and engineers
Partner cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, and Supply Chain
Provide technical support to customers as required
Maintain accurate casting records, process specifications, and training documentation

Required

Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
Direct, hands-on experience with: Industrial furnaces
Direct, hands-on experience with: Metal alloy melting and casting
Direct, hands-on experience with: Centrifugal casting (or closely related specialty casting processes)
Practical understanding of: Casting defect mechanisms
Practical understanding of: Solidification behavior
Practical understanding of: Heat treatment effects on cast materials
Experience working in a production manufacturing environment, not research-only
Comfortable working in high-temperature, industrial shop-floor settings

Preferred

Experience with carbide alloys or wear-resistant materials
Prior responsibility for casting process ownership, not just analysis
Exposure to NDE, SPC, or metallurgical testing methods
Experience supporting customer-facing technical issues
Background in continuous improvement applied to casting processes
