Senior Business and Economics Analyst

Nakupuna Prime is looking for a Senior Business and Economics Analyst to support the Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development, and Acquisition at the Pentagon. Responsibilities

Conducts "deep dive" analysis on China's investment patterns, industrial policies, and their specific impacts on the global defense industrial base
Continuously monitors and analyzes global economic trends, such as inflation, currency fluctuations, and capital flows, to produce strategic foresight on future risks and opportunities for the DON
Produce a monthly "China Economic Statecraft Update" for internal team awareness
When new national/DON strategy is released, author a "Strategic Impact Analysis" memo explaining how it affects the team's priorities
Leads the most complex, high-stakes analyses of critical industrial base sectors, identifying systemic vulnerabilities and single points of failure that could impact the fleet
Owns and champions the "Economic Readiness" framework. Is responsible for defining the metrics, conducting the assessments, and briefing senior leaders on the overall economic health of the sectors that support the DON
Personally lead the annual "State of Economic Readiness" assessment and present the findings to director-level leadership
Personally conducts the economic suitability and risk assessments for the most sensitive and consequential transaction
Evaluates the economic effects of U.S. policies on both the broader economy (macro) and on individual corporate and consumer choices (micro)
Proactively analyzes the structure of the DON's own partnerships and investment vehicles, providing expert advice on how to structure deals to mitigate risk and maximize advantage
Leverages a deep understanding of business operations and contract law to identify hidden risks in supplier agreements, joint ventures, and other commercial arrangements
Integrates the work of the Economic Business Analyst (case-specific) and the Economist (data-driven trends) into their own broader strategic assessments
Serves as the final quality control for all major team products, ensuring every assessment is rigorous, defensible, and meets the highest standards before it reaches leadership
Chair the weekly "Analytic Review Meeting," where the team discusses trends, reviews complex cases, and deconflicts findings

Required

Bachelor's degree
5-7 years of experience in working with the DoD or DON programs within specified technical or operational areas to include FIR, CFIUS support, outbound investment, and non-notify reviews
Supervisory or team lead experience and ability to liaise with senior DON leadership
Outstanding skills in quantitative analysis and statistical techniques
Self-motivated and self-monitoring
Exceptional oral and written communications
Ability to multi-task
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Experience editing technical documents to ensure proper format, grammar, and style
Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
Backgrounds across finance, business analytics, policy analysis, or intelligence analysis with demonstrated ability to speak and write at an executive level
Experience working in an Echelon 1 organization and working with SES/FO/GO
Active Top Secret-SCI eligible
Must be a U.S. citizen
Ability to perform repetitive motions with the hands, wrists, and fingers
Ability to engage in and follow audible communications in emergency situations
Ability to sit for prolonged periods at a desk and working on a computer
