Optical Engineer / Scientist - MARCORSYSCOM - Quantico

Semper Valens Solutions is seeking an experienced Optical Engineer / Scientist to support our organization in Quantico, VA area. The Optical Engineer will provide technical expertise in support of the Electro-Optic Support Facility (EOSF) at Marine Corps Systems Command, conducting testing and analysis for a range of electro-optical weapon sighting and targeting systems used by the United States Marine Corps.

Responsibilities

Provide on‑site technical support to the Electro‑Optic Support Facility (EOSF) in support of the PdM Infantry Weapons program office
Conduct electro‑optical system testing for a broad range of systems, including:
Day optical systems
Image intensification (I2) devices
Laser systems
Thermal imaging systems
Perform system surveillance, troubleshooting, diagnostics, and maintenance management for EOSF test assets and supported systems
Develop, execute, and maintain test plans, test procedures, and test methods in accordance with Government requirements and EOSF standards
Maintain test equipment readiness, calibration, and upkeep to ensure consistent and repeatable testing results
Specify, select, qualify, and evaluate active and passive optical components
Develop and benchmark system performance models to assess electro‑optical system capabilities
Evaluate and recommend test instrumentation appropriate for mission requirements
Analyze and document test results, including technical assessments and process testing data
Support limited user evaluations and provide technical input to Government stakeholders
Assist with coordination and execution of Government shipping and receipt of equipment to and from the EOSF
Maintain and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) governing EOSF operations and testing processes
Manage and maintain accurate inventory control, ensuring accountability and documentation for all EOSF equipment and assets
Conduct research in areas including:
Solid‑state lasers
Lasers
Infrared technologies
Light‑emitting and light‑sensitive devices
Develop maintenance and repair approaches for optical components and system designs
Design or enhance test instrumentation and testing methodologies to support new or evolving capabilities
Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and technical personnel on fabrication, testing, and evaluation of prototype systems

Required

Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline
Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience supporting electro‑optical systems, optical testing, or laboratory‑based engineering environments; additional experience may be substituted for formal education where appropriate
Hands‑on experience testing and evaluating electro‑optical systems, including day optics, image intensification (I2) devices, laser systems, and/or thermal imaging systems
Demonstrated ability to develop and execute test plans, test procedures, and test methods for optical and electro‑optical systems
Experience troubleshooting, maintaining, and managing optical test equipment and instrumentation
Working knowledge of active and passive optical components, system performance modeling, and test instrumentation selection
Experience analyzing and documenting test results, including preparation of technical reports and recommendations
Familiarity with inventory control and equipment accountability within a laboratory or test facility environment
Ability to follow, maintain, and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information to Government and contractor stakeholders
Proficiency with standard engineering and documentation tools, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Ability to work independently on‑site in a secure Government facility
U.S. citizenship required

Preferred

Prior experience supporting Marine Corps Systems Command (MARCORSYSCOM) or Product Manager (PdM) / Program Manager (PM) organizations within a DoD acquisition environment
Familiarity with Infantry Weapons systems, ground combat systems, or related weapons and munitions programs
Experience working in accordance with DoD acquisition frameworks, policies, and guidance, including the DoDI 5000 series and related acquisition lifecycle processes
Experience supporting or interacting with senior‑level Government leadership and cross‑functional acquisition teams
