Grid Modernization Engineering Intern

Responsibilities

Support the development of high-level diagrams that illustrate and contextualize roles, technologies, processes, and key interactions across utility teams
Research and assess the feasibility of emerging grid technologies
Investigate and analyze existing infrastructure and systems. Assist with reports and recommendations for modernization approaches
Contribute to the engineering design of Distribution Automation systems
Collaborate with cross-function technical and non-technical teams, including System Operations, System Planning, Substation Engineering, and strategic planning staff
Support Grid Modernization projects across a range of initiatives, including (but not limited to) next-generation Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), Control Center of the Future, Distribution Automation, and Managed EV Charging
Engage with external organizations such as the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), gaining exposure to internal and external coordination and collaboration

Required

Enrolled in an accredited 2-year or 4-year undergraduate engineering program during their internship
Undergraduate Engineering students will need to maintain a 2.5 GPA or above throughout the internship

Preferred

Enrolled in an accredited Engineering school with a focus on Electrical Engineering or related field
Curious and eager to learn—you ask questions, seek feedback, and enjoy exploring new ideas and technologies
A clear communicator—you're comfortable sharing your thoughts in writing or conversation and open to collaborating with others
Organized and proactive—you can manage your time, follow through on tasks, and take initiative when something needs doing
Interested in clean energy, engineering, or public service—you don't need deep experience, just a genuine interest in the work and its impact
