Materials Engineer

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is a prominent organization focused on ensuring the safety and reliability of naval nuclear reactors. Responsibilities

Perform engineering evaluations and analyses and make engineering recommendations for all aspects of assigned tasks
Planning, designing, modeling, analyzing, documenting, and testing of nuclear, mechanical, structural or electrical components, systems and equipment and facilities
Work may also include chemical or materials evaluations, design reviews, operations support, safety analysis, engineering methods and software development, and analysis of vendor's procedures and systems for quality control or manufacturing surveillance

Required

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience; or Currently an Intermediate Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company
All candidates must be U.S. citizens
Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter
FMP is a government contractor and maintains a drug free workplace and workforce
All candidates must be able to pass a drug test in compliance with FMP company policy and 10 CFR 707

Preferred

Testing experience, R&D, following scientific methods, but finding efficiencies to increase throughput, reduce cost, reduce error, etc
Strong technical writing skills, white papers, testing results, test plans, etc
Project management experience
Well organized, managing multiple tasks/test/work in parallel with varying deliverables and due dates
Experienced with mechanical equipment design for Hot Cell work
Experience working in a Hot Cell environment
Effective communicator across multiple organizations, engineering disciplines, and with Naval Reactors
Mentoring experience
