Facilities Systems Technician
Kishwaukee College is seeking a Facilities Systems Technician responsible for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of the college’s mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and control systems. The role ensures safe and efficient building operations while supporting various campus functions.

Responsibilities
Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on HVAC systems, including chillers, boilers, air handlers, rooftop units, pumps, variable frequency drives (VFDs), heat pumps, and ventilation systems
Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems including lighting, motors, panels, transformers, and control circuits
Perform plumbing repairs and maintenance, including water heaters, pumps, valves, piping, drains, and fixtures
Operate, monitor, and optimize the building automation system (BAS) for HVAC, lighting, and energy management controls
Troubleshoot BAS including network controller and BACnet communication issues
Test and maintain water quality (potable, DI, or specialized systems) to ensure compliance with college standards and applicable regulations
Diagnose and repair complex mechanical, electrical, or control system failures, demonstrating advanced troubleshooting skills across multiple trades
Install or upgrade building systems components as needed, including controls, sensors, wiring, and plumbing/electrical equipment
Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and other trades to support projects, renovations, or specialized repairs
Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, inspections, and parts usage using the college’s work order system
Respond to emergency calls, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required
Provide guidance, training, or mentorship to other maintenance staff on complex systems troubleshooting and repairs
Qualification
Required
Understand and perform minor and major preventative maintenance actions
Advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities across multiple trades
Skilled in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical system repair
Proficient with hand tools, power tools, meters, gauges, and diagnostic equipment
Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and system manuals
Ability to calibrate, maintain, and repair sensors, actuators, motors, pumps, and other mechanical or electrical components
Knowledge of safety codes, building codes, and regulatory compliance
Possess strong organizational skills
Demonstrate clear and effective written and verbal communication skills
Ability to apply principles of rational systems to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
Ability to use practical application of mathematics in general construction and facilities repair and maintenance work
Provide strong and clear communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and lead project-based work
Able to cooperatively work with diverse groups of students and staff
Associates Degree in Engineering or related field
5 years of applicable experience
Preferred
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field
Experience operating and programming building automation systems
Experience testing and maintaining water systems is a plus
Proven experience in troubleshooting and repairing complex mechanical, electrical, and control systems, including variable frequency drives (VFDs)
