Summer 2026 Ecological Restoration Design Intern
Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson is a dynamic, 100% employee-owned consulting firm providing multidisciplinary engineering and related services. They are seeking a Summer Intern to join the Hunt Valley Ecological Restoration Group to assist with design activities and monitor natural habitats for various clients under professional supervision.

Responsibilities
Assess and assist in the design of streams, wetlands, and other natural habitats / ecosystems
Survey and assess streams and wetlands including operating laser level survey equipment and sediment sampling procedures, with the ability to work in hot or cold field conditions for up to 10 hours per day
Analyze and interpret survey reports, maps, drawings, aerial photographs, field notes, and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects
Assist in the development of plans, specifications, reports, and construction cost estimates
Assist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and construction
Utilize general engineering and scientific principles and practices
Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline with established quality
Develop quantity take-offs
Maintain accurate and current project documentation
Assist with administrative duties, as required
Comply with quality control policies and procedures
Learn and implement department and company standards
Develop analysis and design skills
Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Ability to handle multiple projects and manage time
Positive attitude and willingness to work cooperatively with others
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
Effectively utilize current company software programs for word processing, e-mail, and information management
Ability to prepare effective and concise documents
Display abilities to work well with others in a team environment
Students currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Civil or Environmental Engineering
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team with strong communication and coordination skills
Ability to perform field work (natural resources monitoring) including lifting 50 lbs. and navigating uneven terrain
Ability to travel within the Mid-Atlantic Region
Applicants will need a valid driver's license and mode of transportation to conduct site visits, field investigations, or inspections
Preferred
MicroStation OpenRoads Designer, and / or AutoCAD drafting experience
Stream / Wetland assessment and design
ArcGIS mapping / exhibit preparation experience
Hydrologic and Hydraulic Modeling experience in discipline specific design software, including TR-55, TR-20, HY-8, and / or HEC-RAS
