Fuel Tax Group Leader

Responsibilities
Supervise and coach direct reports in the performance of their duties; complete performance reviews and provide feedback to direct reports
Oversee adherence to fuel excise tax guidelines for the enterprise; ensure compliance with federal and state laws in order to safeguard state licensing
Maintain tax rates and taxability rules within applicable systems
Obtain state fuel licensing, bond requests and coordinate special projects
Conduct extensive research and provide an interpretation of tax returns and regulations
Oversee the processing of fuel/excise tax payments to city, county, state and federal agencies on behalf of the company within strict deadlines
Collaborate with Supermarket Fuel, Supermarket Petroleum Group (SPG) and Procurement departments to reconcile tax issues and assist with analyzing licenses
Partner with division associates on the facets of financial work performed by divisions
Provide accurate, timely and efficient accounting assistance to respective teams/departments in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company policies
Examine existing accounting/operational policies and methods and propose process improvements
Create documents and training programs and train teams on best practices, policies and procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal tax laws
Monitor tax returns for accuracy and ensure they are filed promptly
Oversee audits between the company and internal/federal auditors
Reconcile assigned general ledger accounts
Provide senior management with status and progress reports
Maintain flexibility to work long hours and provide off hours (24/7) support during fuel industry disasters and software upgrades
Travel to divisions to conduct training sessions

Qualification
Required
3+ years of accounting, tax or finance experience
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive information
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities
Excellent oral/written communication skills
Excellent planning, organizational, and follow-up skills with close attention to detail
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Experience managing and leading teams
Preferred
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
1 year of prior leadership experience
Any accounting center or audit experience
