Responsibilities
Creates and manages large geologic and geophysical datasets in multiple, often simultaneous, projects related to energy resources and subsurface geology in Arizona
Data integration and map creation in ESRI ArcGIS, which can include static modeling
Collaborate with AZGS team members to conduct research in the fields of geothermal energy, subsurface gas storage, and carbon storage and utilization, participating in all stages of projects from planning through publication
Participates in writing proposals for external funding from federal and state agencies and private partners. May lead or co-lead development of proposals. Will co-author geologic maps, technical reports, and peer-reviewed scientific papers
Conducts fieldwork individually and as part of a team to accomplish scientific tasks in support of Energy Geology projects
Engage in stakeholder engagement with energy partners, government agencies, tribes, the general public, or other relevant organizations
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Geology or related field and a minimum of five years of relevant work experience is required
Must have a valid driver's license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy
Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with different groups and individuals
Knowledge of subsurface geologic characterization methods
Ability to manage large geologic datasets
Proficient with Microsoft Office suite of products (especially Excel)
Preferred
Master's degree in Geology or related field and three years of relevant work experience
Familiarity with ESRI ArcGIS suite of software including ArcPro and ArcGIS Online
Familiarity with subsurface modeling software
Experience conducting field investigations
Experience applying AI tools in scientific research
