LOCAL ROADS & STREETS FIELD ENGINEER - (CIVIL ENGINEER V)

The State of Illinois is seeking a Local Roads and Streets Field Engineer to join the Department of Transportation. This role involves approving local agency proposals for the expenditure of funds related to transportation projects and ensuring compliance with state and federal guidelines.

Responsibilities

Approve local agencies' proposals for expenditure of Motor Fuel Tax (MFT), Township Bridge Program (TBP), federal and other special funds
Approve Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS & E) for local agency construction projects involving MFT, TBP, federal and other special funds
Serve as primary agent to carryout state transportation responsibilities with local agencies
Assure proper control and expenditure of MFT, TBP, federal and other special funds
Maintain technical and professional competence in highway functional areas from project inception to close
Assure local agency compliance with state and federal guidelines
Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees
Performs other duties as assigned

Qualification

Licensed Professional EngineerCivil engineering experiencePS & ESupervisory experiencePublic worksRelationship managementCommunication skills

Required

Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois
Five years of experience in civil engineering

Preferred

Supervisory experience
Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering
Extensive knowledge of modern methods and techniques as applied to the design, construction, and maintenance of public works
Knowledge of plans and specifications
Ability to promote, establish and maintain harmonious relationships with local agencies and the general public
Strong oral and written communication skills
