Responsibilities
Provides personal property and real estate balances with computer balances
Answers all incoming emails to the department’s email address
Researches to answer the concern or directing emails to other departments for a response. Must have the knowledge of where to direct those emails for the appropriate response
Assists in the collection of real estate and personal property taxes, includes posting payments, balance, and prepare daily deposit when needed
Creates letters, liens, and other notices for delinquent taxes
Prepares and distributes various reports, schedules, account analysis, etc., to Treasurer and other officials as requested
Collects delinquent taxes and fees owed to the City of Suffolk
Assists with several delinquent collections processes including but not limited to: DMV stops, set-off debt collections, wage liens, bank liens, seizures, Treasurer’s summonses, real estate tax sales, and the mailing of delinquent notices
Performs skip-tracing and other forms of account research
Performs other related duties as required
Qualification
Required
Associate's Degree in Accounting and 4 to 5 years of experience in accounting or delinquent collections work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
Requires a valid driver's license
Enrollment and participation in Treasurers' Association's Master Governmental Deputy Treasurer (MGDT) program is required
Preferred
Experience in a Treasurer's Office or Commissioner of the Revenue's Office in Virginia is preferred
