3+ years expCox Science Center & Aquarium is seeking an experienced, highly motivated Database Manager to lead the design, implementation, optimization, and ongoing management of the organization’s data ecosystem. This role is critical for ensuring the integrity, security, and strategic use of data across all departments, transforming raw data into actionable insights that drive operational efficiency and enhance guest experiences.

Responsibilities
Design, implement, manage, and optimize SQL-based database environments (Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL, PostgreSQL, or MySQL)
Maintain high availability, performance tuning, indexing strategies, and query optimization
Develop and maintain data models, schemas, stored procedures, and ETL processes
Establish database standards, naming conventions, documentation, and operational procedures
Architect and manage integrations between ticketing and POS systems
Manage integrations with membership platforms
Build and maintain connectivity with CRM and fundraising systems
Integrate marketing automation platforms
Support financial systems data flows
Enable data sharing with learning and education platforms
Build and manage data pipelines using APIs, middleware, and ETL tools
Support real-time and batch data synchronization across cloud platforms
Partner with leadership to develop dashboards, reporting frameworks, and KPIs
Support BI platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or similar tools
Enable self-service analytics for departments while maintaining strong governance
Translate business needs into data models and reporting solutions
Qualification
Required
3+ years of hands-on experience managing production SQL database environments
Strong knowledge of SQL development, query optimization, indexing, and performance tuning
Experience with Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL, PostgreSQL, or equivalent enterprise platforms
Strong experience with data modeling, ETL tools and pipelines, API-based integrations, and cloud-based data platforms
Working knowledge of data warehousing concepts and analytics architectures
Experience supporting BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or similar
Solid understanding of database security, encryption, role-based access, auditing, and compliance
Proven experience designing and managing enterprise-scale databases supporting mission-critical systems
Experience working with CRM systems, fundraising platforms, ticketing systems, or ERP solutions
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions
Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Strong documentation and organizational skills
Ability to work independently, set priorities, and manage multiple initiatives
Collaborative, service-oriented mindset with a passion for operational excellence
Preferred
Experience in nonprofit or aquarium or cultural institution
Experience with donor management systems and nonprofit fundraising platforms
Experience supporting ticketing, admissions, and membership platforms
Familiarity with cloud-first architectures (Azure preferred)
Experience with data visualization, storytelling, and executive dashboards
Understanding of guest engagement analytics and digital marketing data platforms
